NEWTON
“Gene” Irwin, 95, died June 7, 2008 at the Newton Medical Center, Newton, Kansas.
He was born on January 15, 1913 the son of Frank W. and Fern (Wahl) Irwin in Cantrall, Illinois.
On December 18, 1954 her married June E. Glasco in Jacksonville, Illinois.
Gene enlisted in the Air Corp Division of the United States Army on May 5, 1942 and was honorably discharged on November 3, 1944.
After moving to Kansas, Gene worked for the Ewing Construction Company of Hutchinson, Kansas. He retired from there in April, 1982.
He was a member of the American Legion, Newton, Kansas and the Labors Local, # 1290 of Topeka, Kansas.
Gene like hunting, fishing and gardening, especially his flowers. His also spent time doing a variety of woodworking.
He is survived by his wife June; several nephews and a niece; honorary family, Tom and Aimee Metzler and family, Melanie Hanna and Jane Winslow and family, Newton, Butch and Sharon Leka, Riverton, IL.
Preceding him in death were his parents and one sister.
Book signing will be from 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. on Tuesday, June 10, 2008 at the funeral home.
Memorial Services will be on Wednesday, June 11, 2008, at 10:00 A.M. at the Broadway Colonial Funeral Home Chapel.
Private burial will be held at a later date.
