Barbara Ellen Chard, long time resident of Newton Kansas died on August 31, 2023 at the age of 89.
She was born on December 19, 1933 in Whitewater Kansas the daughter of James and Helen (Hunt) Alexander.
Barbara married Bill Chard on Nov. 14, 1953 and was a stay-at-home mom until her children left home. She went back to school at McPherson College and became an LPN at Bethel Hospital, and later at Kansas Christian Home, where she was a resident at the time of her death.
Barbara was loved by everyone, especially all her grandchildren. She never met a stranger. She always had a prayer list pages long. Her favorite song to sing her children was “A bushel and a peck and a hug around the neck”.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Billie Chard Jr., two grandsons, Jeremy Alan Chard, and Alexander Lee Bradley. Two brothers, 3 sisters, and her niece Ann Adams.
She is survived by her children: Terry (Thalene) Chard, and Lea (David) Bradley. Grandchildren: Heather (Daniel) Jenkins, Ashlee Durham, Mandy (Jess) Parker, Josh (Jessica) Price and Jeremy Price. Great-grandchildren: Dakota (Morgan Funk) Chard, Shelbie (Braeden Horn) Chard, Dawson Chard, Morgan Chard, Lucas Jenkins, Brianna Polston, Zack Dauer, Lynda (Michael) Rodgers, Shanna Yokum, Jaycee (Noe) Rodriguez, Nicolas (Kassie) Yokum Eli, Jaxson, and Addison Price, Fisher and Lucas Price. Great-great-grandchildren: Aiden, Caelub, and Sterling Chard, Graysen Horn, Houston and Ryder Carlton, Rylee and Raegan Rodgers, and Fenrus Yokum.
Visitation will be on September 10th from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home.
Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m. September 11th, Meridian Baptist Church, with Pastor Scott Kliewer officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Newton.
A memorial has been established with Caring Hands Humane Society. Contributions may be written to Caring Hands and, sent to Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, 120 E. Broadway, Newton, KS., 67114.
