Barbara Jean Stout, 72, of Newton, died Tuesday (March 11, 2014) at the Newton Medical Center.
She was born on September 14, 1941 in Halstead, Ks., the daughter of Woodrow Wilson and Madge Hartzell Hughes. She was raised Halstead where she graduated from high school. Barbara was united in marriage to Donald Eugene Stout on February 11, 1961 in Newton. He died on April 8, 1984.
Barbara had worked as a nurse at the Presbyterian Manor, she had also worked at the Kinder Box Spring Company and Seeger Plumbing. Through the years, she had been of the Newton Area Communications Assoc., and the Good Sam Campers Club. Barbara was also very active within the Democratic Party for many years, including this past weekend participating in a meeting in Topeka.
Survivors include her son Mark Stout of Newton; daughters Stephanie Frazier and Robbin Allen both of Newton; and Donna Felkins of Hagaville, Ark.; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren.
Barbara is preceded in death by her parents; husband; infant son Randy; brothers Jerry and Richard Hughes and sister Beverly Krueger.
The casket will be open at the funeral home on Friday 1pm til 8pm, the family will be there to receive friends between 6 and 8.
Cremation will be effected at a later date.
A memorial has been established with the Harvey County Democratic Party, contributions may be sent to Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, 120 E. Broadway, Newton, Ks. 67114.
