Bernadine V. Whitmire, 88, of Newton, died Monday (July 2, 2012) at the Kansas Christian Home in Newton.
She was born on October 11, 1923 in Newton, the daughter of George A. and Katherine Hill Biesterfeld. Bernadine attended schools in Newton.
She married Roy D. Whitmire on March 17, 1973 at the Lutheran Church parsonage in Hesston. He died on March 15, 2002. She later married Garlan Johnson in January, 2006, in Newton.
For several years Bernadine operated a day care in her home. She was a member of the Meridian Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband Garlan of the home; sons Jerry Johnson of Topeka, and Dominick Gaglione of Oxford, Ga.; daughter Pam Brown of Newton; nine grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren. Bernadine is also survived by her step children Glenace Humphrey, Donald Johnson, Evonne Sawcinski all of Newton, and Robert Johnson of Lyons, Ks.; nine step-grandchildren and 10 step-great grandchildren.
Bernadine is preceded in death by her parents; son Phillip Gaglione; daughters Candace Kester and Kimberly Ann Gaglione; brothers Lowell L. Biesterfeld, Vernon E. Biesterfeld, and Orren Biesterfeld; and sister Georgina Neuhauser.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Thursday (July 5, 2012) at the Broadway Colonial Funeral Home. Interment will be in the Greenwood Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday 1pm til 5pm where the family will receive friends between 4 and 5.
