Bert M. Garrison

Bert M. Garrison, Jr., 67, of Newton, died Tuesday (June 29, 2010) at the Via Christi Regional Medical Center-St. Francis Campus in Wichita.

He was born on March 26, 1943 in Atchison, Kansas, the son of Berton Merle, Sr. and Wilford Cress Willis Garrison. Bert was raised and attended schools in Atchison.
He married Rebecca A. Eichelberger on January 29, 1972 at the First Baptist Church in Wellington, Ks. He lived in Bonner Springs, Kansas until moving to Wellington upon being married.

Bert went to work at Plessey Aero Space in Wellington in 1972, working as an aircraft machinist, going to work for Kiser Manufacturing in Argonia in December, 2003, retiring in March, 2009.

The Garrison’s had lived in Wellington for many years, moving to Argonia where they lived for five years until moving to Newton in March, 2009.

Bert was a member of the Argonia Wesleyan Church and the First Missionary Church in Newton.

Survivors include his wife Rebecca of the home in Newton; sons William Lee Garrison of Yates Center, Ks., Berton Merle Garrison, III of Dallas, Tx., Allan Lynn Garrison of St. Joseph, Mo.; daughters Tamera Louise Garrison of Mississippi, Michelle Lynn Garrison, and Nancy Darlene Ludlum of Newton; siblings Robert Melvin Garrison of Cummings, Ks., Wilma Mae Smith of Topeka, Melvina Garrison of Atchison, Ks., Lillie Pearl Wade of Colorado Springs, Colo., Barbara Jane Garrison, Carol Elaine Wilmeth of Parsons, Ks., William Wayne Garrison of Kansas City, Virginia Lee Eggleston of Seattle, Wash.; nine grandchildren.

Bert is preceded in death by his parents; sister Sharon Garrison; brother Thomas Eugene Garrison; granddaughter Joy Ludlum.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Friday (July 2, 2010) at the Broadway Colonial Funeral Home in Newton.

Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday 1pm til 9pm.

A memorial has been established with the Cancer Center of Kansas in Newton, contributions may be left at the Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, 120 E. Broadway, Newton, Ks. 67114
