Betty Ann Schmidt Beedles Hills, 56, of Wichita, a poet and retirement specialist, left this world in the angel’s arms for her new home in heaven on Sunday,( Dec. 27, 2009) from the Covenant Care Senior Living Home in Andover, Ks.
Born on January 13, 1953 to Walter and Irene Schmidt in Newton, Ks. She attended Newton High School, graduated with an Associates of Arts Degree from Hutchinson Junior College and from Emporia State University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English and Sociology. At the age of 17 Betty discovered the art of poetry as a fulfilling means of self-expression, and she continued writing until her death
. Betty spent 13 years married to David Beedles and they were blessed with one daughter Jennifer Louise Beedles Stapp. Later on, Betty was married to William Hills for eight years. Throughout her adult life, Betty’s career involved several different office positions, the most recent being a fifteen year tenure at Intrust Bank’s main office, faithfully serving in the well-respected capacity of retirement specialist, where she was often referred to as “The IRA Queen.”
Betty was predeceased by her father, Walter D. Schmidt, two unborn babies, and one nephew, John Edward Barben.
Survivors include her daughter Jennifer; son-in-law Christopher; and granddaughter Addisyn Kate Stapp of El Dorado, Ks.; her beloved shih-tzu, Sissy of the home; mother Irene Schmidt of Newton, Ks.; brother Lee Schmidt of Topeka, Ks.; sisters Norma Barben of Newton, and Karen (Dan) Parks of Garden City, Ks.; two nephews, Michael Barben of Dodge City and Jason (Aimee) Parnell of Rippey, Ia.; one niece Amanda Parnell of McPherson; several aunts, uncles and cousins, both former husbands and their families, and many special friends.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday,( Dec. 31, 2009) at 10:00 A.M., in the First Mennonite Church, 429 East First, Newton, Ks.
Private family inurnment at Greenwood Cemetery, Newton, will take place at a later date.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday between 1:00 PM and 9:00 PM, where the family will receive friends from 5 until 7 P.M..
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established with the Kansas Humane Society, contributions may be sent to Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, 120 E. Broadway, Newton, Ks. 67114.
