Betty M. Oller

Betty Mae (Vogt) Oller, 83, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on February 1, 2016 at Kansas Christian Home in Newton.

She was born February 23, 1932 at Bethel Hospital in Newton, Kansas to Paul E and Edna (Tangeman) Vogt. She grew up in a Christian family on a farm southwest of Hesston, Kansas. Betty attended grade school in a country school and attended High School at Hesston Academy where she graduated in 1950.

Betty worked at Sears and graduated from Grace Bible Institute in Omaha, NE in 153. Betty married Richard Oller on June 3, 1954 at Garden Community Church in rural Hesston, Kansas, and they enjoyed 61 years together. Betty & Richard lived in De Smet and Huron, South Dakota after marriage until 1965. Then they moved to Hesston, KS and then to Newton, KS in 1966. In the early years of marriage, Betty and Richard worked at Byron Bible Camp during the summer, working as the camp secretary and anything that needed done at the camp.

Betty and Richard joined Meridian Baptist Church in 1966 where she was a very faithful and active member. She has been involved in many of the church ministries including playing the piano and organ, teaching Sunday School and singing in the Choir. Betty was the Sparks Director for many years in the AWANA program where she completed 32 years of service until her illness

Betty worked at Gibson’s and Anderson’s Office Supplies part time then worked as a teller at First Bank of Newton for 20 years where she retired in 1994. She enjoyed fishing, gardening, quilting, cross-stitch and spending time with her children and grandchildren. Betty especially enjoyed taking the grandchildren fishing during her retirement.

She is survived by her husband Richard E. Oller of the home. Daughters, Becky (Sam) Tremaine of Boise, ID, Beverly (Dan) Dowdy of Milwaukee, WI, Barbara (Brad) Miller of Peck, KS and one son, David (Beth) Oller of Newton, KS, 19 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and 6 step great grandchildren. Brother, Arnold (Shirley) Vogt, Sisters Helen (Alvin) Bergen and Dorothy (Norman) Friesen and many cousins, family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister Verna (Vogt) Broeckel.

Visitation with the family will be on Friday evening, February 5, 2016 from 6:30 to 8:30 pm at Meridian Baptist Church Martens Center. The casket will be open at the church after 1pm on Friday.

Funeral service will be on Saturday, February 6, 2016 at 10:00 AM at Meridian Baptist Church at 1130 W. Broadway, Newton, KS. Interment will be in Restlawn Gardens of Memory near Newton.

In Lieu of Flowers, memorials can be made to Meridian Baptist Church Missions Fund or the Union Rescue Mission in Wichita, contributions may be sent to Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, 120 E. Broadway, Newton, Ks. 67114.
