Bill T. Smith passed away at Asbury Park Greenhouses in Newton.
He was born on July 18, 1930 in Oklahoma City, the son of Herbert E. and Belva Mae Smith. Bill graduated from Newton High School in 1948.
Preceded in death by parents; brothers Herb Jr., Vernon, Jerry; and sister Marion Hinshaw.
Survivors wife Marilyn Smith of the home; sons Tom Smith of Wichita, Ron Smith of Newton; grandchildren Alexandra Smith of Denver and Michelle Smith of Mission, Ks.; and sister Martha Rutschman of Newton.
Bill worked for the Santa Fe Railroad for 44 years. He was the local chairman for the U.T.U. Bill was very active in the Masonic lodge and a member of the Midian Shrine and was 32nd Degee Mason with the Scottish Rite.
He served on the City Commission of Newton for 10 years and was Mayor in 1973-74 and 1976-77.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Tuesday (November 1, 2016) at the Broadway Colonial Funeral Home. Interment will be in the Greenwood Cemetery in Newton.
Friends may call at the funeral home Monday between 1pm and 8pm where the family will receive friends between 6pm and 7pm
