Bobby R. Abplanalp, 83, of North Newton, died Tuesday (June 18, 2013) at the Via Christi Regional Medical Center-St. Francis Campus in Wichita.
He was born on December 28, 1929 in Newton, the son of Walter and Hattie Goodrich Abplanalp. He served in the U.S. Navy. Bobby married Eleanor Shockley on January 30, 1953 in Potwin, Ks.
Bobby had worked at K N Energy for several years before retiring in 1992. They moved to Newton in 1996.
Survivors include his wife Eleanor of the home in North Newton; sons Steven and his wife Jill of Attica, Ks. and Terry of Lakin, Ks.; daughter Cindy Webster and husband Larry of McPherson; sisters Maxine Harris of Denver, Colo., Lois Ingram of Tampa, Fla., and Bernice Harvey of Newton; seven grandchildren; four great grandchildren; nine step-grandchildren; and eight step-great grandchildren.
Bobby is preceded in death by his parents and sister Mable Ekholm.
Graveside services will be held at 9:30 A.M., Saturday (June 22, 2013) at the Prairie Lawn Cemetery in Peabody, Ks.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday (June 22, 2013) at the First United Methodist in Newton.
Friends may call at the funeral home Friday 1pm til 8pm where the family will receive friends between 7 and 8pm
A memorial has been established with the First United Methodist Church, contributions may be sent to Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, 120 E. Broadway, Newton, Ks.
