Bobby Dee Grant, 89, died Saturday, April 12, 2025 at Ascension Via Christi, St. Francis in Wichita. He was born April 4, 1936, at St. Rose Hospital in Great Bend, the son of Chester Allan and Louise Thelma (Gant) Grant.
While in Michigan visiting family, Bobby met the woman that would hold his heart for the rest of his life, Lena Allene (Van Haaften) Grant. They married June 29, 1958. Lena died July 12, 2019 after 61 years of marriage.
He attended high school at El Dorado High School, El Dorado, KS. He was drafted in the US Army Corps September of 1959. While in the Army he served overseas in Germany and earned the Good Conduct Medal and the Expert Infantry Badge. He was honorably discharged in July 1965.
Bobby worked many years of his life for Fleming Foods in Wichita as a forklift driver. When the warehouse closed, Bobby went to work for K-Mart in Newton as the Garden Shop Manager until his retirement.
He was very active in the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie in Park City, Newton and the State Level. He attended Church at First Baptist Church, Newton. In his younger years, he enjoyed bowling, basketball and golf. He grew up on the Grant Ranch east of El Dorado. His love for horses spilled over in later years as a trainer for racing quarter horses in the 1970s. He served as Boy Scout Leader for Newton Troop 321. He also loved outdoor activities including fishing and hunting and training his German Shorthair Pointers.
In the last few years, he has lived at Paramount Living Center, Newton, where his has made an impact on staff and residents. He was known for always giving birthday cards and Christmas cards, making sure to stand up for those he believed needed help, sit with residents who were ill and dying so they would not have to die alone. He would bring a smile to those around him with his humor. He always tried to bring comfort to those in need.
Bobby held family and friends close to his heart. Bobby and Lena had one child, Karen, who Bobby always referred to as his favorite daughter.
Survivors include: daughter, Karen (Grant-Jacobs) Rothe and husband Clay, Hutchinson; grandson, Trenton Jacobs and wife Amy, Kansas City, Ks; granddaughter, Rachael (Jacobs) Allmon and husband Drew, College Station, Tx; great-granddaughters, Sawyer Jacobs, Elliott Jacobs; great-grandson Briggs Allmon; and former son-in-law, Michael Jacobs, Newton.
Services will be held at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, 120 E. Broadway, Newton, KS on Monday, May 5, 2025 at 10 a.m. followed by graveside service at Greenwood Cemetery. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to Kansas Oil Museum in memory of Bobby Grant and the (-7L) Grant Ranch, 383 E. Central Ave, El Dorado, KS 67042.
