Bonnie Rae (Mosiman) Schmidt of Hesston, KS, age 75, passed away early morning of June 8, 2023, at Schowalter Villa in Hesston, KS after a battle with declining health.
Bonnie was born to Daisy D. Richert and Howard W. Mosiman in Newton, KS on March 12,1948, the first of seven siblings. She attended Remington High School, Whitewater, KS. After high school, Bonnie met and fell in love with Eugene Schmidt. They were married at Faith Mennonite Church in Newton, KS on April 20,1968. They made their home in Newton, KS. Their first daughter, April Dawn was born on April 30,1969 at Axtell Hospital, in Newton, KS. Their second daughter, Elisa Sue, was born on June 18,1970 at Goessel Hospital, Goessel, KS, but was still born, a devastating loss for them. Bonnie worked in the kitchen at various nursing homes in Newton and Goessel throughout her life. She devoted her life to being a wife, mother, and grandmother. Her and Gene stepped up and were devoted grandparents/parents to their grandchildren, after the passing of their daughter April. Her grandchildren became her world and she was a devoted grandmother to them. She enjoyed going fishing with her family, being one of her favorite past times.
Bonnie was preceded in death by her daughters Elisa Sue, and April Dawn (Schmidt) Smith, her husband Eugene, her parents Howard Mosiman, and Daisy (Richert Moslman) Herbison, sister Sharon Hoskins, and brother Ben Mosiman.
She is survived by her grandchildren, Felica Smith of Halstead, Brandon Smith of Newton, Danny Smith and wife Amanda of Park City, her great-grandchildren, Kloe Murray of Halstead, Haverleigh, Georgia, and Charlie Smith of Park City, her brother Bill Mosiman (wife Elizabeth) of Newton, Pat Embry (husband Gene) of Ft. Collins, CO, sister Vickie Voth (husband David) of Hutchinson, KS, brother Russell Mosiman (wife Christine) of Olathe, KS, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home,120 E. Broadway, Newton KS on Thursday, June 15 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm, with family present from 6:00pm to 8:00 pm. Funeral services will be on Friday, June 16, at 10:00 am at First Church of God, 620 Fairview, Newton, KS.
Family suggests memorials to the Cancer Society, an organization she felt strongly about, and may be sent in care of Broadway Colonial Funeral Home.
