Carol Ellis

Carol Evaline Ellis, 73, a longtime Hesston resident, died Monday (May 4, 2015) at the Newton Medical Center.

She was born on December 17, 1941 in Newton, Kansas, the daughter of William Robert and Letha Margaret Box Fraser. Attending local schools, Carol graduated from Newton High School in 1959.

Carol was united in marriage to Keith Donald Ellis on September 18, 1960 at the E.U.B. Church in Newton. She had worked in the Clerk’s and Treasurer’s office in the Harvey County Courthouse, the donut shop in Hesston and the Food Market’s in Hesston and Moundridge.

Carol would later return to further her education, receiving her Bachelor’s Degree from Friends University in Wichita in 1994 and her Master’s Degree from Kansas State University in 2000. She was an instructor for a year before joining the Newton School District Co-Op working as a Special Ed Para for a Speech Language Pathologist for five years, Carol continued to work as a Special Ed Para until retiring from the district in 2010.

She enjoyed doing genealogy and love to cook. Through the years Carol stayed very active, she had been a “Den Mother” for the Hesston Cub Scouts, served as Vice President of the Harvey County Republican Women in 1960, Past Matron of the Newton Order of Eastern Star Chapter #5, Past Guardian of Jobs Daughters Newton-Bethel Chapter #21.

Survivors include her brother Robert W. Fraser and his wife Sandra of Hesston; sister-in-laws Hazel Ashen and Ruth Ellis of Hutchinson; brother-in-law Wayne Ellis of Wichita; nieces and nephews Sheri Fraser, Russel Fraser, Pat and Bruce Klosterhoff, Dennis and Debbie Ellis, Larry and Julie Ashens, Doug Ashens, Bradley and Sondra Ashens, Carol and Jim Russell, and Linda Ellis; and many cousins.

Carol is preceded in death by her parents; husband Keith on July 16, 2008; and son Mark M. Ellis on February 12, 1986.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Monday (May 11, 2015) at the Broadway Colonial Funeral Home. Interment will be in the Greenwood Cemetery in Newton.

Friends may call at the funeral home Sunday between 1pm and 6pm, where the family will receive friends between 2 and 4.

A memorial has been established with the Kansas Children’s Service League of Wichita and Caring Hands Humane Society, contributions may be sent to Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, 120 E. Broadway, Newton, Ks. 67114.
