Donald Eugene Blades, 78, of Andover, died Saturday (July 15, 2017) at Asbury Park in Newton, Ks.
He was born on January 26, 1939 in Cherryvale, Ks., the son of Ralph Cleek and Mary Valinda Nicholson Blades, Sr. Don was raised in Cherryvale, where he graduated in 1957. He later graduated from Baker University.
During the View Nam conflict, Don served in the U.S. Navy. After being discharged from the military he moved to California and became a character actor. He would later move to Wichita where he worked at Cessna Aircraft for several years before moving to Ft. Worth, Texas to work at General Dynamics. After retiring Don moved to Andover.
Don loved to dance which is where he would be his wife Marcella, together they would enjoy traveling. Don was an avid newspaper reader and always made sure to do the crossword puzzles.
He also was involved in several theatrical productions in the Wichita area.
He is survived by his wife Marcella Thiesling of the home.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, brother Ralph, Jr., and a sister.
Cremation has been effected. A private family inurnment will take place at a later date in Cherryvale, Kansas.
