Donald "Don" Lee Boese, 71, of Cameron, Texas, fought a good and brave fight...after battling a rare lymphoma cancer and other health complications, he went to be with Jesus while surrounded by his family on December 13, 2012.
Don was born August 6, 1941, in Burns, Kansas, to Andrew and Margaret Adrian Boese. On March 10, 1962, he married Sherry Mae Heginbottom in St. Charles, Missouri. Don grew up working on a farm and began his great adventures when he became employed with American Airlines where he worked for over 38 years, starting in Chicago, Illinois; transferring to St. Louis, Missouri; and later to Austin, Texas. After retiring in 1997, he enjoyed puttering around on the farm, helping others on their farms, and visiting with family and friends, whether he went into town or he was sitting on the front porch at home in the country. He loved telling stories and sharing his years of wisdom with all of us. He also loved going to small town Friday night football games, especially six-man football, since he had fond memories of playing that game in high school. Don was a loving father, husband, grandfather, great grandfather and friend to all. He leaves behind his legacy of hard work, strong work ethic, loyalty, honesty, dedication and perseverance. He was a no-nonsense, down-to-earth, family-first, kind-hearted, wise man. At 6'1 tall, he was a gentle giant, in stature and character. While he was in the hospital, every time a doctor, nurse or other staff came into his room, he always thanked them and told them what a great job they were doing...no matter how he was feeling.
Don is survived by his wife, Sherry Mae Boese, and his three daughters, Suzette Swoverland, husband, Kirk, and her daughter, Morgan Chambless of Plano, Tx.; Deatra Boese Draper, husband, Marc, and her son, Dustin Boese, and Dustin's daughter, Madison "Maddie" Boese of Austin, Tx.; and Arthenia Ferkany, husband, Patrick, and their children, Andrew Jefferson "AJ" and Lily of Austin.
Don is also survived by his brother Ray A. Boese of Wichita; and two sisters Patricia Ford of North Newton and Florine Tripp of Jefferson City, Mo.
He is preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister Margaret.
Visitation with the family will be held from 6 until 8 p.m., Thursday, December 20, at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 21 at 10 a.m., at the Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, 120 E. Broadway St., Newton, Kansas. Don will be laid to rest at Greenwood Cemetery in Newton, Kansas.
A celebration of his life service will be held in Austin in the coming weeks, arrangements pending.
