Doris D.. Dreier

Doris D. Dreier, 96, died on Friday, February 19th, 2010 at the Kansas Christian Home in Newton.
She was born August 24, 1913, at Newton, Kansas, the daughter of Irving Lorrin Donaldson and Margaret Geane (Catterton) Donaldson. She attended Newton Public Schools, graduated from Newton High Schools in 1931. She also graduated from American Medical Records course of study.

On December 28, 1931, she married William (Bill) Dreier at Newton. He died June 24, 1992.

After her marriage to Bill Dreier they resided on a farm north of Newton for more than 60 years. She also worked for Cunningham’s Department Store, was a legal stenographer, a medical stenographer at Bethel Deaconess Hospital, an accredited records technician at Axtell Christian Hospital and taught Medical Secretarial Studies at Hesston College.

She was a member of the Newton First Church of the Nazarene, American Medical Records Association, Kansas Medical Record Association, and Walton 4-H, where she was a leader.

Doris was a church pianist and organist for 75 years. She enjoyed music, reading, working crossword puzzles, and her Bible Study Group she had for over 15 years. One of the highlights of her life was accompanying the Teen Choirs of the church on their trips and other appearances for four years. This occurred during the time Rev. Carl Craig was Youth and Choir Director at the church.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Hal Wiens, Lenexa, KS, a son and daughter-in-law, Lorrin and Kovette Dreier, Placitas, New Mexico; 3 grandchildren; 1 step-grandchild; 5 great-grandchildren; 1 step great-grandchild and 1 step great, great-grandchild; sister-in-law, Thelma Umholtz.

Preceding her in death are her parents, her husband, daughter, Jeannie (Dreier) Prescott, brother LaVerne Donaldson, granddaughter, Lorri Dreier, 2 sister-in-laws, Ruby Dreier and Louise Donaldson.

A Memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, February 27th, 2010 at the First Church of the Nazarene with Rev. Charles West and Chaplain Denny Bell presiding.

Visitation will be Friday, February 26th, 2010 from 1:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. with the family greeting guests from 5:00-7:00 P.M. at the funeral home.

A private family burial will be held .

Memorials may be made to the First Church of the Nazarene or the Disciples of John of Kansas Christian Home, in care of Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, 120 E. Broadway, Newton, KS 67114.
