Doris Esther Hansen

Doris Esther Hansen, 85, Newton, Ks. died Saturday (Jan. 2, 2010) at her home.

She was born on September 22, 1924 on a farm near Peabody, Ks., the daughter of James Lilburn and Lula Taylor Mellott. She attended school in Peabody. Doris married Robert Neil Hansen on August 30, 1942 at the Lutheran Church in Peabody.

For two years Doris worked at the Peabody High School. They moved to Newton in 1946. For nearly 35 years, Doris was the Office Manager for Doctors James and Gene Enns and Dr. Richard Irwin in Newton.

She had been a member of the Salem United Methodist Church in Newton and the Newton Bowling Association.

Survivors include her husband Bob of the home in Newton; daughter Norma Arnold of Hesston; three grandchildren Shawn, Kelly, and Jennifer; seven great grandchildren Tyler, Krystene, Tanner, Madyson, Emersyn , Jack, and Lillian; and one great-great grandchild Landen.

Doris is preceded in death by her parents; four brothers Earl, Willis, Marvin, and John Mellott; and two sisters Gladys Archer and Thelma Harris.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Tuesday (Jan. 5, 2010) the Salem United Methodist Church in Newton. Interment will be at the Prairie Lawn Cemetery in Peabody.

Friends may call at the funeral home Monday 3:00 P.M., til 9:00 P.M., where the family will receive friends between 7:00 P.M. and 8:30 P.M.

A memorial has been established with Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice and the Salem United Methodist Church, contributions may be sent to Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, 120 E. Broadway, Newton, Ks. 67114.
