Dorothy Jane Quilty, 90, of Newton, died Saturday (Oct. 3, 2009) at the Presbyterian Manor in Newton, Ks
She was born on September 9, 1919 in Newton, Ks., the daughter of Joseph M. and Nora F. McGarry Steinkirchner. Jane graduated from Newton High School in 1937 and from Kansas State University in 1941.
She married Lawrence Michael Quilty, II., on February 7, 1948 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Newton.
Jane had been a grade school teacher for many years at St. Judes in St. Louis, Mo., and St. Joseph’s in Shawnee, Ks. They return to Newton shortly after she retired in 1976. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
Survivors include her husband Larry in Newton; two sons Joseph M. Quilty and his wife Janice of Olathe, Ks., Lawrence Michael Quilty, III and his wife Helen of Shawnee, Ks.; one daughter Karen R. Quilty Miller and her husband Martin of Topeka, Ks.; five grandchildren Heather Quilty, Heidi Quilty, Jaime Quilty, Krystin Sanford and her husband Steve, and Lawrence Michael Quilty, IV and his wife Ashlee.; and one great grandson Kevin James Sanford. Jane is preceded in death by her parents.
Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held at 6:30 P.M., Tuesday (Oct. 6, 2009).
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 A.M., Wednesday (Oct. 7, 2009) both at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Newton. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.
