Dorothy Maxine Schill, 90, died Thursday (April 17, 2014) at the Newton Medical Center.
She was born on April 21, 1923 in Newton, the daughter of Margaret (Powell) and Charles “Mutt” Sherman. Dorothy was raised and attended schools in Newton. She married Paul A. Schill on March 28, 1946 in San Francisco, Calif., they returned to Newton. Paul died on September 23, 1986.
Dorothy had worked in the local A.S.C.S. Office for a short time, then became the secretary to the Principal of the Newton High School where she worked for several years until retiring. Dorothy and Paul enjoyed traveling and spent many Winters in the South. She was a member of the Phi Betta Kappa and loved to dance.
Survivors include her son Dr. Michael Schill and his wife Patricia of Redding, Calif.; two grandchildren Stephen Schill of Fairfax, Va., and Andra Schill-Hiester of Redding, Calif.; and three great grandchildren Caleb, Zachary and Nathaniel Hiester.
Memorial services will be held at 1:00 P.M., Saturday (April 26, 2014) at the Schowalter Villa in Hesston. Inurnment will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Newton.
There will be no visitation as cremation has been effected.
A memorial has been established with Schowalter Villa, contributions may be sent to Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, 120 E. Broadway, Newton, Ks. 67114.
