Dale George Griswold, 96, passed away in the earlier morning hours on Sunday, May 5, 2024 at his home in Newton, Kansas.
He was born in Hays, Kansas on October 23, 1927, the son of Sherwin B. and May A. Griswold. The family moved to Newton in 1937 where he attended Lincoln and Newton Senior High School. In 1945 Dale enrolled at Kansas University. Dale enlisted in the Army in 1946 putting his education on hold. After serving in Japan, he returned back to Kansas University to continue his education and met Eleanor M. Brown.
After completing his education at KU Medical School in Kansas City, Kansas, Dale spent a year of internship at St. Mary’s Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri. Dale and Eleanor were married June 2, 1950, they moved shortly after to Newton, Kansas where he had established his medical practice at Axtell Clinic, where he worked until he retired in 1993. Dale and Eleanor adopted a son Edwin D. Griswold in the fall of 1965. Eleanor preceded Dale in death on September 26, 2007.
Dale and Connie were united in marriage January 11. 2011. Dale lived the rest of his days in Newton, Kansas with Connie by his side.
Dale was preceded in death by his parents, Sherwin and May; first wife, Eleanor; and brother, Don Griswold.
He is survived by his current wife, Connie Griswold of Newton; son, Edwin (Jill) Griswold of Newton; sister, MaryAnn Hankin of McLean, Virginia; nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and step-children.
A Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, May 22, 2024, 1:30 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Newton, Kansas with Pastor Scott McGinnis officiating. Burial will follow at Restlawn Garden of Memories on Hwy 50, Newton, Kansas.
Memorials are suggested to either Newton Presbyterian Manor or Harry Hynes Hospice and may be left in care of the funeral home.
