Edie Roberson

Edith C. “Edie” Roberson passed away on Sunday (February 10, 2019) at the Presbyterian Manor in Newton, Ks. at the age of 92.

She was born on August 12, 1926 in Osawatomie, Kansas, the daughter of Lewis H. and Amanda L. Decker Ross. Edie moved to Newton when she was 15 years old and continued to live there until her death.

As a young woman, Edie married Robert Edward “Bob” Anderson, also of Newton. They had three children, Dorothy “Dottie”, Nancy, and Robert. She was widowed on Easter Sunday, 1964, when Bob Anderson died suddenly.

Edie and Roy Max Miller married and joined families, adding his children; Sheryl, Glenda, and Roy Max, Jr. to the family. Edie and Max were very social and active in the local Shrine Club, as well as active members of the Salem United Methodist Church in Newton. Edie became a Worthy Matron in Eastern Star.

She is best remembered in Newton and the surrounding areas for her musical entertainment, mostly in the 70’s and 80’s, and for her “help” at the Miller Sinclair Station on Broadway. She was widowed again at the age of 61, when Max died on Easter Sunday, 1987.

Edie was blessed with love again, and married Paul Ray Roberson, a longtime Newton resident, at the age of 80. Edie and Ray were frequently seen in Newton restaurants until his death in 2013. They were members of the First United Methodist Church in Newton.

She spent the remaining years of her life living at the Newton Presbyterian Manor.

Survivors include her children Dorothy “Dottie” Coone and husband Joe of Sylva, North Carolina, Nancy Green and husband Gary of Newton, and Robert Anderson and wife Sharon of Ft. Worth, Tx.; her step-children Sheryl Miller Kelso and husband Jim of Dalhart, Tex., Glenda Miller Cardwell and husband Steve of Whitby, Ontario, Canada, and Roy Max Miller, Jr. and wife Tara of Crowley, Tex. Edie also leaves nine grandchildren Joe Regier and John Regier both of Newton, Reiser Mayne, Kelly Anderson, Allen Kelso, Shawna Kelso Eaker, Jack Kelso, Justin Cardwell, and Matthew Cardwell; and 11 great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Edie is preceded in death by her parents; sister Mary Davis; half-brother Shorty Ross; and half-sisters Della Mae Albright and Mildred Ross.

A celebration of Edie’s life will be held at a later date.
