Edith M. Rodriguez, 92, died Tuesday (June 5, 2018) at Asbury Park in Newton.
She was born on August 9, 1925 in Hale Center, Texas the daughter of Victoriano and Engracia Reza Juarez. The family moved to Wisconsin, later moving to the Strong City-Elmdale, Kansas area until moving to Newton.
Edith married Frank L. Rodriguez on August 31, 1946 at the Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Newton. Frank and Edith loved to attend the Mexican dances to be with family and friends. He died on August 6, 2010.
During World War II, Edith worked at Boeing Aircraft in Wichita as a “Rosie the Riveter”. She had been the housekeeping and laundry supervisor at the Kansas Christian Home for 20 years before retiring in 1985.
Edith was a longtime member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church and the Francisco I. Madero Society.
Survivors include her son Orlando Rodriguez and his wife Charlene of Newton; daughter Sonya Michelle Bressie and her husband Mike of Derby; sister Rhonda Simental of Sacramento, Calif.; nine grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and son-in-law Ronald Tennissen of Olathe, Ks.
Edith is preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter Victoria Ann Tennissen; brothers Ramiro Juarez and Angel Juarez; and sister Emily Palacioz.
The Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held at 9:00 A.M., Friday (June 8, 2018) at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church immediately followed by the Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Newton.
A memorial has been established with the building fund of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, contributions may be sent to Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, 120 E. Broadway, Newton, Ks. 67114.
