Eleanor Arlene Abplanalp, age 90, of Newton, Kansas, passed away on Friday, February 23, 2024 at NMC Hospital in Newton. Eleanor was born August 8, 1933 at home in Burns, Kansas, to Harry and Lucille (Mathiot) Shockley.
She was baptized and joined the United Methodist Church on April 17, 1949 in Potwin, Kansas. Eleanor attended Potwin Schools until her sophomore year then she attended and graduated from El Dorado High School in 1951.
She met Bob while in High School and they were married on January 30, 1953 after Bob returned home from serving the United States Navy. They were married at the Methodist Church Parsonage in Potwin, Kansas.
Eleanor worked for the Scott County Library as an assistant librarian for 18 years and retired in July of 1991.
Eleanor is survived by her children, Steven Abplanalp (Jill), Terry Abplanalp (LeAnne), Cynthia Abplanalp Webster (Larry); 15 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Lucille; husband, Bob; and sister, Doris King.
Visitation will be held Thursday, February 29, 2024, at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home from 12:30 – 1:30 p.m.
Graveside Service will follow at Prairie Lawn Cemetery in Peabody, Kansas at 2:00 p.m. with Chaplin Marty Colborn officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
