Elizabeth H. (Betty) Glover died Tuesday, February 16, 2010. Betty was born April 15, 1922 in Denver, Colorado to James Isben and Margaret Webster Hollingsworth. She attended Parkhill Grade School, Smiley Junior High, and East High, head girl at all three schools. Betty attended Colorado College in Colorado Springs, and graduated in 1944 with a degree in Sociology. On March 27, 1944, she married Richard Mortimer Glover of Newton, Kansas.
She taught first grade in Lawrence, Kansas, while her husband Dick was attending KU Medical School.
Of all of her interests, her family was her proudest accomplishment; she instilled in all of her children a deep love of togetherness. Betty loved to cook and sew and entertain. She always made a connection with each person she met and was loved by so many people. Colorado held a special place in her heart, not only did she meet her husband there, but she loved to go to Green Mountain Falls each summer with her family.
She was a member and president of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority, Kansas Medical Society Auxiliary, Harvey County Medical Auxiliary, YMCA board, Women of St. Matthew’s, Axtell Hospital Auxiliary, P.E.O., Junior Reading Circle, and Round Table.
Survivors include three daughters, Nancy and Dr. Charles Craig of Newton, Meg and Bruce Henderson of Dallas, and Mary and Dr. Rick Beck of Newton; two sons, Dr. Rick and Rochelle Glover of Newton and Jim and Stephanie Glover of Oklahoma City; fourteen grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, her parents, and sister.
A book signing will be held on Friday, February, 19th from 1:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Family members will greet visitors from 5-7:30 p.m. Friday at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home in Newton.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 20th, at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church in Newton.
In lieu of flowers, the family has established a memorial with St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church.
