Eva Lena Suderman, 80, died on September 7, 2011 at the Schowalter Villa in Hesston.
She was born on September 25, 1930 in Meno, Oklahoma to Eva (Koehn) and Joseph Eck.
Eva Lena married Alvin H. Suderman at the First Mennonite Church of Newton on September 28, 1951. He preceded her in death on June 11, 1997.
Moving to the Newton area in 1947, Eva Lena spent the majority of her lifetime in the Newton area. She was a 1949 graduate of Newton High School.
Evan Lena was a former member of the First Mennonite Church of Newton, where she was active in the church and taught the Sunday school class for many years.
Most recently, she joined Koerner Heights Church of the Mennonite Brethren in Newton.
Being a homemaker, and raising her four children, Eva Lena supported husband with all of his activities. She was actively engaged in the farm, and always had a vivacious garden. Her hobbies included quilting and baking. She had quilted each of the grandchildren special baby quilts and quilts for weddings. Her baking of homemade bread, cinnamon rolls, pies, and peppernuts will definitely be missed. Eva Lena was also a member of the Century Club of Blood Donor’s.
The love for her family was endless. A devoted, caring and loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister, will be missed. She loved her family endlessly.
Preceding her in death were her parents, her spouse, Alvin, sisters, Bertha, Frieda, Margaret, Lillian and Obera and a brother Detrick.
Survivors include 3 sons, Arlan Suderman (Angie) of Wichita, Don Suderman (Marcee) of Newton, Darrel Suderman ( Laurel) of Highlands Ranch, CO; daughter, Carol (Samuel) Amstutz, of Wichita; brother, Paul Lee Eck, Elk City, KS; 2 sisters, Marie Matz, Kechi, KS and Malinda Guhr, Newton; 12 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be on Friday, September 9, 2011 at Schowalter Villa in Hesston, from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.
Graveside Services will be held on Saturday, 1:00 P.M., September 10, 2011 at Greenwood Cemetery in Newton.
A Memorial Service will follow at 2:30 P.M. at Schowalter Villa. Pastor Brent Vansickle and Reverend Wendy Miller will be presiding.
