B. Frances Hubman, 93, died Wednesday (February 10, 2021) at the Comfort Care Home of Newton.
She was born on June 7, 1927 in Alva, Oklahoma, the daughter of Leo and Mable Hullet. Frances was raised in the Wakita area where she graduated from high school in 1945 as her class Salutatorian. She later received a Bachelor’s Degree of Science from the Oklahoma City University in 1949.
Frances moved to El Dorado, Kansas to do her Internship, while there she met Fred Hubman, Jr. on a blind date in January, 1950, they were engaged December 24th of that year.
Frances and Fred were married on November 18, 1951 in Wakita, Oklahoma. They moved to a farm Southeast of Peabody where they lived until moving to Newton in 1995. Fred died May 26, 2000.
Through the years Frances had worked in Newton at the Bethel Deaconess Hospital and later at several Via Christi Clinics in Wichita.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Newton, was a volunteer for several years for Prairie View and Youthville. Frances was always active, she was still snow skiing when she was in the 70’s and water skiing when she was 83.
Survivors include her son Gary Hubman and wife Rebecca of rural Newton; daughters Sherry Schmidt and husband Dennis of North Newton, Linda Simpson and husband Bill of Orlando, Fla.; brother David Hullet of Seattle, Wash.; nine grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.
Frances is preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother Robert Hullet; and sister Allene Tidwell.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday (February 19, 2021) at the Broadway Colonial Funeral Home. Interment will be in the Greenwood Cemetery in Newton.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday (February 18th) between 1:00 P.M. and 8:00 P.M., where the family will receive friends between 6:30 P.M. and 8:00 P.M.
A memorial has been established with Prairie View and Embers Hope/Youthville, contributions may be sent to Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, 120 E. Broadway, Newton, Ks. 67114.
