Gay Ann West

November 10, 1930 — January 21, 2021

Gay S. West, 90, of Newton, passed away into her Heavenly home on Thursday (January 21, 2021) at Ascension Via Christi Regional Medical Center-St. Joseph Campus in Wichita.

She was born on November 10, 1930 in Stillions, Arkansas, the daughter of George C. and Frances Brower Stillions. As a child, the family moved to Mississippi and later to Houston, Texas where she graduated from high school.

While living in Houston, Gay was invited to participate in U.S.O. Shows where she was a dancer both during and after World War II.

Gay returned to Mississippi in 1956 where she attended business college and worked as an assistant in various insurance and attorney offices prior to being married. She married David T. West on November 24, 1956 in Rome, Mississippi. They moved to Newton in 1965.

She was a devoted wife and Navy mother. Gay enjoyed square dancing until recent years.

Survivors include her sons David A. West of Natchez, Miss., Frank C. West and his wife Lorna of Mesa, Ariz., and Timothy A. West of Newton. Other survivors include her sister-in-law Clemmie Stillions of Scottsdale, Ariz.; and nieces Wanda Gay Stillions, Donna Stehower, and Sandra Auringer all of Arizona.

Gay is preceded in death by her parents; husband David in 2008; and brother George Stillions, Jr.

Family inurnment services will be held at a later date at Greenwood Cemetery in Newton.

There will be no visitation or viewing as cremation has been effected.

A memorial has been established with Caring Hands Humane Society, contributions may be sent to Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, 120 E. Broadway, Newton, Ks. 67114.
