Geraldine Loretta “Geri” Comer, 87, of Newton, died Wednesday (January 27, 2010) at the Newton Medical Center.
Geri was born on March 13, 1922 in West Bend, Iowa, the daughter of Patrick Francis “Frank” and Bridget Calligan Sweeney. She was raised and attended schools in West Bend.
She followed her brother Gene Sweeney and his wife Gayle to Wichita where Geri worked at an aircraft plant during World War II. Geri married Lowell Milton “Bunny” Mohler on April 25, 1946 in Newton. He died on July 15, 1975. Geri later married William H. Comer, he died in 1981.
For many years Geri operated a beauty shop in her home. She was a member of the Church of the Brethren.
Survivors include her sister Rita Derner of Algona, Iowa; several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; brothers Donald and Gene Sweeney; sisters Helen Fogarty and Lucille Sweeney.
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 A.M., on Tuesday (February 16, 2010) at the Church of the Brethren in Newton. Inurnment will be in the Greenwood Cemetery.
There will be no visitation.
