Virginia “Gina” Monarez-Solis, 62, was called home to be with our Lord on August 29, 2018.
The Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held at 6:00 P.M., Tuesday, September 4, 2018 with the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, September 5, 2018 both at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Newton. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Newton.
Gina was born in Newton Ks to Aurora and Carlos Monarez on October 4, 1955. She attended both Wichita and Newton schools graduating from Newton High in 1973.
In June of 1981 she married her handsome husband Joe “Sidewinder” Solis. She loved life and her family. Gina had one daughter Sheris Solis, because it was obvious she did it right the first time there was no need to try again! She also had three beautiful grandchildren whom were her entire life Kizah Solis-Rodriguez, Valente Solis Rodriguez (the girls swear he was grandma’s favorite) and Kahlea Cooper.
Gina worked for many years at Food 4 Less until its closing and then finished her career at Excel Industries in Hesston KS.
Gina was the second of five children and had many nieces and nephews whom adored her because she was definitely the “cool” aunt! Gina enjoyed spending time with her family and spent her afternoons on Lakeview Dr. hanging out with family who meant so much to her! She also liked taking trips to Kansas City to see old friends and never missed a 4th of July tournament here in Newton KS (Well once and the 4th of July wasn’t the same without her that year)! Gina was a tenacious and free spirit which ultimately means she lived life the way she wanted to and no one could tell her what she going to do (but in a good I am woman hear me roar way!).
She will deeply and forever be missed but will live on through all who loved her!
She is preceded in death by her mother Aurora Monarez; father Carlos Monarez; and brother Vernon Monarez.
Gina is survived by husband Joe R. Solis; daughter Sheris Solis (Chris Cooper); grandchildren Kizah, Valente and Kahlea; beloved grandog Lulu; brother Vincent Monarez; sister Victoria Monarez-Malter; and brother Valen Monarez.
