Gladys E. Ruff

Gladys Eileen (Oblander) Ruff passed away and joined her husband, Ike, in heaven on October 14, 2011.

She was born May 7, 1926 in Hillsboro, Kansas to George and Anna (Shulz) Oblander. Gladys was baptized & confirmed at the Zion Lutheran Church of Durham, Ks.. She grew up on a farm in Lehigh, Kansas and after high school moved to Newton, where she lived throughout her life. Gladys was united in marriage to Raymond David (Ike) Ruff on December 12, 1947 in Newton. During the Korean War she spent two years with Ike in Oceanside, California when he was recalled into the US Marines. Gladys worked for the Axtell Clinic/Hospital from 1944-1950, and later from 1968-1988, when they both retired. She and Ike enjoyed 20 years of life together following that retirement. Ike died on April 3, 2008.

Survivors include son, Rickey (Carol) of Derby Kansas and daughter, Karen Ann Elpers (Mike), of Northville, Michigan. Grandchildren: Jamie Lynn Lang (Kyle) of Manhattan, Ks., Shawn David Ruff (Lacey) of Wichita, Ks., Jeremy Foster Ruff of Wichita, Ks., and Christopher Michael Elpers of Northville, Michigan. Great Granchildren: Tanner Michael Lang, Kaden James Lang, and Madison Renea Lang, all of Manhattan, Kansas. Also: One sister Shirley Schroeder (Robert) of Newton, Ks., and one brother Harvey (Jo) Oblander of Phoenix, Arizona.

Gladys was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church in Newton, Kansas. She enjoyed her family, loved music, was kind and gentle to everyone, and will be missed by all of us. She was a loving wife, a super mom, and adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren. During her past three years she was a resident at the Halstead Health & Rehab Center, Halstead, Ks., where she was cared for by an outstanding staff.

In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made in her memory to Good Shepherd Hospice, Wichita, Kansas, contributions may be sent to Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, 120 E. Broadway, Newton, Ks. 67114

Funeral services will be at 11 AM, Monday October 17th at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home in Newton. The Rev. James W. Anderson will be presiding. Burial will be at the Restlawn Garden of Memories outside of Newton.

Friends may call at the funeral home Sunday 1pm til 7pm,where the family will receive friends between 4pm and 5pm.
