Gladys Maxine Smith, born November 10, 1921, at home in rural Butler County, the daughter of Orson H. and Lura Bacon, died on Sunday, November 22, 2015 at Kidron Bethel, in North Newton, Kansas.
Gladys married Frank Leo Smith in Grayville, Illinois in 1940. He preceded her in death in 2001. Also preceding her in death was her mother and father; 5 sisters; 3 brothers, and a grandson, Sean Smith.
She is survived by her three children, Gary (Rochelle) Smith of Branson, MO,
Larry (Ingrid) Smith of Miranda, CA and Kathy (Bob) Meacham of North Newton, KS.
11 grand children, 17 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren, as well as nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.
Gladys retired from Boeing in 1987. In prior years she had operated a café at Pickerell Corner east of Augusta, becoming well known for her pies. After Frank’s death, Gladys lived in Augusta surrounded by family and friends. One of her life’s great joys was the Crusader’s Sunday School Class at the First Baptist Church in Augusta. Because she loved God’s Word, Gladys attended Christian Women’s Bible Study in Wichita for over 18 years, spending part of her time helping in the children’s ministry.
Visitation will be on Monday, November 30th, 2015 at the 1st Baptist Church in Augusta. The family will greet from 10:00 A.M. to 11:30 A.M. at the church.
Funeral Services will be at 1:00 P.M. at the church, on Monday, November 30, 2015.
Interment will be held at the Wakefield Cemetery.
