Grace A. Combs, 91, gently left this earth to be with her Heavenly Father the afternoon of October 10, 2013.
Grace was born on August 27, 1922 in Kansas City, MO. She married James E. Combs Jr. on July 25, 1940. They were married for 72 years. In Jim’s words “they were born married”. Her parents were Walter and Eva McCracken.
Most of her life she was a homemaker. Grace was a gifted in the art of sewing and needlework. She loved being outdoors and gardening. Grace was a devoted Episcopalian and her faith was an important part of her life. She loved serving the church and God.
Grace is survived by three children, son James Combs III and wife MeLinda of Albany, MO, son Michael Combs and wife Cindy of Newton, KS, and daughter Julie and Joe Mintner of Higginsville, MO, sister-in-law Lorraine Combs, grandchildren Jim Combs IV of Kansas City, KS, Patrick Mintner of Abilene, KS, Annie Doak of Lexington, MO, Paul Mintner of Iowa City, IA, Susan Hoshor of Ames, IA., Jeff Combs of Wichita, KS., David Combs; 13 great grandchildren, a niece and three nephews.
Grace was preceded in death by her husband James E. Combs, Jr. and her parents.
She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends, especially her “girls” at Kansas Christian Home.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, October 16, 2013 at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church, 2001 Windsor Drive, Newton, KS. Burial will be at Hillside Cemetery, Sedgwick, KS immediately following.
The family will great friends at the church on Wed. from 1:00 – 2:00 prior to the funeral.
In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established with St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church. Contributions may be sent to Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, 120 E. Broadway, Newton, KS 67114.
