Harold N. Porter, 69, of Newton, died Saturday (May 23, 2009) at the Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.
Harold was born on August 4, 1939 in Fay, Oklahoma, the son of Harold Grant and Mildred Leta West Porter. He was raised in the Fay and Thomas, Oklahoma area.
Harold married Daintee Bee Higgins on October 19, 1958 in Newton, Kansas.
He served in the U. S. Navy from 1956 til 1960. He later served in the U. S. Army from 1963 til 1966 as part of the 16th Infantry in Viet Nam, receiving a Purple Heart. The Porter’s returned to Newton in 1965.
Harold went to work for K.G. & E. in Newton working as a Journeyman Wireman for many years until retiring from Western Resources. Harold was a member of the Walton United Methodist Church, a life member of the Newton V.F.W. Post, a lifemember of the Purple Heart Association, and a life member of the 16th Infantry Regiment Association of which he was inducted as a D.M.O.R.
Survivors include his wife Dani Porter of the home in Newton; four daughters Suni Barker, Paula Cornelius, Tammi Fayette, and Kerri Resser and her husband Chris all of Wichita; two sisters Vinita Routh of Junction, Tex., and Barbara Potter of Edmond, Okla.; eight grandchildren; and his mother-in-law Hilda Higgins of Walton, Ks.
He is preceded in death by his parents; one sister Carolee Sutton; one brother Victor Porter; one son-in-law Steve Barker.
Graveside services and interment will be held at 10:00 A.M., Friday (May 29, 2009) at the Greenwood Cemetery in Newton.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday at the United Methodist Church in Walton, Ks.
Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday 1pm til 9pm, where the family will receive friends 6:30pm til 8pm.
