HAZEL GERTRUDE FEY

Born February 13, 1913 in Crescent City Illinois to Robert and Eva Thompson, died July 31, 2010.

Hazel left her home at the age of 14, to work in St Louis Missouri and later at Scott Field Illinois, where she met her soulmate and life partner, Richard Dudley Fey. They were married July 11, 1935 in Maplewood Missouri.

In 1936 they moved to Wichita Kansas, Dudley’s home town, where they operated a grocery store for 22 years. In 1958, they purchased marina concessions on Lake Fegan near Toronto Kansas, which they ran for 27 years. In 1985 they moved to Yates Center, where they operated a tax business. Hazel and Dudley worked side by side for 54 years, until his death on January 23 1989. Hazel remained in the home and independent for the rest of her life, with the help and love of family and wonderful neighbors. She was 97 years of age at her death.

She is survived by two sons, Richard Dudley and wife Connie of Leawood Kansas, and Donald Charles and wife Mary B. of Wichita. Hazel leaves three sisters, Virginia McDowell in Souix Falls SD, Darlene Huge and Doris Schutte in Nashville IL, and one brother, Lloyd Kraft of Murray KY. She leaves six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers.

She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her, but the love and dedication she shared will live on within us all. It has been our very good fortune and a great honor to have her in our lives.

Graveside services will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, August 7th at the Halstead Cemetery in Halstead Kansas.

There will be no visitation.
