Helen Joy Wehry, 88, died Saturday (February 19, 2022) at the Ascension Via Christi Medical Center-St. Francis Campus in Wichita, Ks.
She was born on October 24, 1933 in rural Moundridge, Kansas, the daughter of Martin and Elsie Stucky Schrag. Helen was raised in the Moundridge area, graduating from Moundridge High School.
Helen married Harvey Wilson Wehry, Jr. on February 12, 1954 at the Eden Mennonite Church in Moundridge. The lived in Newton since then. Harvey died on April 27, 1995.
Through the years Helen worked in several area banks. She was a charter member of Faith Mennonite Church and was a very active member, serving on several committees. She was also a longtime member of the Newton B.P.W.
Survivors include her two daughters Janice Diana Nesser of Newton and Karen Denise Osborn and her husband David of Euless, Texas; brother John Schrag of North Newton; sister Twila Norris of Wichita; six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Helen is preceded in death by her parents; husband; son Timmy Dale Wehry; daughter Debra Renae Murry; and sister Carol Kay Penner.
Private family interment services will be held at Greenwood Cemetery.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, March 26, 2022 at the Faith Mennonite Church in Newton.
A memorial has been established with K.S.U. Center for Basic Cancer Research, contributions may be sent the funeral home.
