Henry K. Reimer

Henry K. Reimer was born on May 12, 1917, attaining the age of 96 years passing away just five days shy of his 97th birthday, on May 7, 2014 at the Schowalter Villa in Hesston.

Henry was born to John H. and Katherine Heidebrecht Reimer in Meade, Ks., and attended McNulty Grade School and Meade Bible School as a youth. He was called up during World War II for Civilian Public Service during which he married Margaret Z. Friesen on November 29, 1942 in Meade, Ks. They lived in Meade on the homestead to farm and also worked at Meade Manufacturing Co., building RV’s in town.

Henry and Margaret enjoyed traveling and took many trips across American, Old Mexico, Canada, and Europe. Henry also was an active volunteer of Mennonite Disaster Service and Mennonite Central Committee. Because of health reasons they Reimer’s moved in 2001 to Schowalter Villa in Hesston.

He was preceded in death by his wife on September 20, 2006; his parents; and his brothers, Jacob and John.

Survivors include his son, Harold and wife Linda of Newton, their children David and Shelley Topham, Allison, Erin and Trey of Valley Center, Mark and Cherie Reimer and Christopher of Newton; his daughter Ruena Reimer of Wichita; his son Marvin Reimer of Rose Hill and his children, Philip of Wichita, Matthew and Emily Royal of Shawnee, and James of Wichita.

Memorial graveside services will be held at 1:00 P.M., Thursday (May 15, 2014) at the Emmanuel Mennonite Church Cemetery in Meade, Ks. The family will visit with friends at the church following the services.

A memorial service will be held 6:00 P.M. on Sunday (June 1, 2014) at the Schowalter Villa in Hesston.

There will be no visitation or viewing as cremation has been effected.

A memorial has been established with the Mennonite Disaster Service, contributions may be sent to Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, 120 E. Broadway, Newton, Ks. 67114.

Arrangements are by Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, Newton.
