JAMES M. PATTON, 85, of Newton, died Monday (Dec. 17, 2012) at the Newton Medical Center.
He was born on June 23, 1927 in Walton, Kansas the son of Harriett Elizabeth Griffith and Alva R. Patton.
He was a graduate of the Walton High School. Jim was a lifetime member of the Walton United Methodist Church. He also held a membership with the Walton Lions Club and was active in the Senior Citizens Choir.
Jim married Harriet Virginia Thomas on April 12, 1952 at the home of her parents in Peabody, Ks. They farmed near Walton for a short time before moving to Newton in 1962. During his lifetime he also had worked for the American Flour Mill, laid carpet and tile for many years, Farmers Co-op and recently was the maintenance person at Presbyterian Manor in Newton.
Jim is survived by several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Harriet on June 2, 2011; one brother, Glenn A. Patton and one sister, Earlene “Peg” Hanlon.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday (Dec. 20, 2012) at the Walton United Methodist Church. Interment will be held prior to the memorial service at 10:00 A.M. in the Walton Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday, from 1:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.
A memorial has been established with Walton United Methodist Church.
