On Thursday evening, October 18 2018, Janis I Newberry (age 81) of Denton, TX left her earthly body to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Janis was born on June 16, 1937 in Goessel , KS to Esther and Elmer Unruh. She graduated from Newton High School in 1955. She married Alan C Newberry, her high school sweetheart.
Janis was a dedicated railroader wife and mother. She moved fourteen times over fifty-three years and made each house a home. She was a very talented decorator and artist. She and Alan retired in Lee’s Summit, MO where they enjoyed fishing at their lakeside home. She won numerous blue ribbons at county fairs for her quilts and watercolors.
Many friends have been blessed to receive pieces of jewelry that she also crafted. Janis was an avid Kansas City Chiefs fan and was a season ticket holder for many years before moving to Texas to be closer to her daughter and family. She was a strong and determined woman who fought and won twice against breast cancer.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Alan and brother, Donald.
Her remaining family includes her daughter and son-in-law Rochelle and Chris Schrowangen of Coppell, TX; grandson and wife, Kord and Kylie Schrowangen and great grandsons, Kage and Krew of Denton, TX.
A graveside service honoring Janis will be held Saturday, October 27 at 2pm at Greenwood Cemetery, Newton KS.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pink Soles in Motion.org or another breast cancer research organization. Contributions may be sent to Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, 120 E. Broadway, Newton, Ks. 67114.
