JoAnne Gomez, 56, of Newton, died Friday (Feb. 5, 2010) at Via Christi Regional Medical Center-St. Francis Campus in Wichita, Ks.
She was born on October 14, 1953 in Camp Chaffee, Arkansas, the daughter of Martin and Josepha Edelman Hoyt, Sr. She graduated from St. Anne’s Academy in Ft. Smith, Arkansas. JoAnne married Robert F. Gomez on October 15, 1971 in Ft. Smith.
JoAnne and Robert moved from Ft. Smith to Kansas, settling in Newton in 1988. For the last 25 years she had operated a day care out of her home.
She is survived by her husband Robert of the home; her children Sherry Fuller of Indianola, Iowa, Rob Gomez of Newton, Kristina Gomez of Newton, Jamie Gomez of Newton, Kelly Gomez of Overland Park, Ks., Cory Gomez of Newton, and Jacy Gomez of the home; one brother Martin Hoyt, Jr. of Lavaca, Ark.; and six grandchildren Parker Arellano, Colby Gomez, Avery Hinojos, Jackson Gomez, Nikko Hinojos, and Madyson Gomez.
JoAnne is preceded in death by her parents.
Friends may call at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home on Monday (Feb. 8, 2010) between 1pm and 9pm where the family will receive friends 6pm til 8pm.
Private family funeral services will be held later with interment in the Greenwood Cemetery in Newton.
