John Bestvater, 97, died on Sunday, January 26, 2014, at the Bethesda Home in Goessel, Kansas. He was born in Harvey County the son of Abraham H. Bestvater and Helena (Franz) Bestvater, on July 11, 1916.
He was a member of the Alexanderwohl Church.
John was in the Army in World War II. He served his country for 4 years, 4 months and 8 days.
He retired from the Standard Oil Company, after many years of service employed as an electrician and maintenance personal.
He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, Mavis; sisters, Christine Peters, Grace Kasitz, Mary Spencer, Unilda Moffatt, Betty Andrews, and Martha Promenshenkel; brother, Frank Bestvater.
Survivors include, son, Ralph and wife Christine, Newton; grandsons, Tarl, Newton, Shawn and wife Karmini, Malaysia, Indonesia and great grandson, Rohit Bestvater; family member, Sally Bestvater; sisters, Mildred Riekenberg, Salina, KS; brother, Henry and wife Virginia Bestvater, Newton; Grand Nieces and Grand Nephews.
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 31, 2014, from 1:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M. with the family greeting from 3:00 P.M.-4:00 P.M.
Graveside service will be on Saturday, February 1, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. at the Highland Cemetery, in Rural Newton, Kansas.
Broadway Colonial Funeral Home in Newton is in charge of arrangements.
