Jose Martinez

Jose Vasquez “Joe” Martinez, 93, died Monday (December 17, 2018) at Diversicare in Sedgwick, Ks.

He was born on September 14, 1925 in Riverside, California, the son of Julian and Genevieva Vasquez Martinez. Joe served in the U.S. Army in the early 1950’s.

Later he worked at the air force base in San Bernardino, California. Joe moved to Newton in the late 70’s with his companion Catalina “Katie” Torres.

Survivors include his son Ernest Martinez of Oregon; niece Olivia Flores of California; daughter Rosie Torres of Newton.

He is preceded in death his parents; companion Katie; and a daughter.

Graveside services and interment will be held at 11:00 A.M., Thursday (December 20, 2018) at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Newton.

There will be no viewing or visitation.

Arrangements are by Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, Newton.
