Josephine Rowland Murphy, 93, died Monday (February 24, 2020) at Asbury Park in Newton.
She was born on March 8, 1926 in Newton, the daughter of Charles and Gertrude Thomas Rowland. Josephine was raised and attended schools in Newton.
She moved to Pueblo, Colorado where she married Jeremiah Murphy on July 8, 1965. He died on August 9, 1995.
Josephine had worked as a cook at the Holiday Inn in Pueblo for many years until retiring. She returned to Newton in October, 2000 to be near her brother, Lorton Rowland.
Survivors include her step-daughter Nancy Dickerson of Oklahoma City, Okla.; step-son J.D. Murphy of Green Bay, Wisc.; four grandchildren Jeremy Murphy, Mia Hornsby, Zachary Dickerson and Jordan Murphy; eight great grandchildren; and one great-great grandson.
Along with her husband and parents, Josephine is preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.
Cremation has been effected with no services to be held.
Arrangements are by Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, Newton.
