Julian Garcia

Julian Garcia, 75, of Newton, died Friday (July 5, 2013) at the Newton Medical Center.

He was born in Newton on January 9, 1938, the son of Nicolas and Guadalupe Garcia. He attended local schools, graduating from Newton High School. Julian married Elesa Simons in 1956 in Newhall, Calif.

Julian worked for Kinder Congoleum for over 30 years where he was a plant supervisor. He was a very active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He always enjoyed watching his grandkids, working in his shop, gardening, traveling and building.

Survivors include his wife Elesa of the home; his children Vince Garcia and wife Karen of Newton, Mike Garcia and wife Tina, Marcy Myers and husband Bill all of Hutchinson, Kathy Archer and husband Matt of Newton, Cristy Thomas and husband Mark of Milwaukee, Wis.; sisters Mary Garcia, Betty Atkinson and Carole Martinez all of Newton; grandchildren Nisha Cannon, Sheena Garcia, Cody Garcia, Chelsi Tafolla, Colton Garcia, Garrett Garcia, Dillon Archer, Kaley Archer, Aubrey Myers, Jayda Thomas and Andre Ghelfi-Thomas.; nine great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Julian is preceded in death by his parents and brothers Marcelo and Jimmy.

Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be said at 6:30 P.M., Tuesday, July 9.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 A.M., Wednesday (July 10) both at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

A memorial has been established with St. Mary’s Catholic Church, contributions may be sent to Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, 120 E. Broadway, Newton, Ks. 67114.
