Karen Sylvia Jacobson, 82, died Wednesday (May 9, 2018) in Newton, Ks.
She was born on February 29, 1936 in Newton, the daughter of Gerald and Doris Ramey Kelso. Karen was raised in Newton, graduating from Newton High School in 1954. She worked for a short time for Southwestern Bell Telephone in Newton.
Karen married Jerome H. “Jerry” Jacobson on September 1, 1956 in Newton. In the early 1960’s they moved to Olathe, Kansas. Shortly after which the Johnson County Juvenile Hall was opened, Karen was Jerry’s administrative assistant there for 35 years. They retired in 1995.
Karen and Jerry returned to the Newton area in 2002. She was a member of St. Matthews Episcopal Church and was an avid doll collector. She had also been a member of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Colonial Dames.
Survivors include her husband Jerry and son David Lee Jacobson both of the home in North Newton; daughter Julie Ann Kauffman of Spring Hill, Ks.; brothers Phillip Kent Kelso of Olathe and Gerald Kelso of Phoenix, Az.; granddaughters Karen Franke and Lauren Neyman; and great granddaughters Isabelle, Josephine, and Lucille Neyman and Hendrix Franke.
Karen is preceded in death by her parents.
Private family services will be held.
Arrangements are by Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, Newton.
