Katherine Jordan, 98, of Newton, died Wednesday (December 3, 2014) at the Newton Medical Center.

She was born on September 17, 1916 in Newton, the daughter of Lesco and Octavia Cochran Wade, Jr. Katherine attended local schools and was a lifelong resident of Newton. She married Emmett S. Jordan on April 13, 1941 in Newton.

During World War II, Katherine worked at Boeing Aircraft in Wichita. Prior to the birth of her children, she was a domestic worker for the Galle family in McPherson and the Oliver family in Newton. Katherine would later be a cook at the Ripley Hotel in Newton as well as several area nursing homes and restaurants.

Katherine was a longtime member of the Second Baptist Church in Newton, serving as President of the Mission Society and Director of the Vacation Bible School program. Through the years she had also been a member of the local E.H.U.

Survivors include sons Wayne of Oakland, Calif., E.J., of Newton, Richard of Wichita; daughters Evelyn Yvonne Lee of Lawrence, Ks., and Joyce Jordan of Kansas City, Mo., eight grandchildren; several great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Katherine is preceded in death by her parents; husband Emmett on May 30, 1977; and brothers Carl, Ernest and Greggular Wade.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 11, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. at the Second Baptist Church in Newton, Kansas. Interment will be in the Greenwood Cemetery, Newton.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday and Wednesday from 1:00 P.M.-8:00P.M. Family will greet visitors on Wednesday, from 6:00 P.M.-8:00P.M.
