Larry Lavell Embry, 78, died Saturday (March 13, 2021) at his daughter’s home in Derby.
He was born on October 1, 1942 in Shawnee, Oklahoma. Larry graduated from high school in Cherryvale, Kansas where he was very active in sports and he still holds a school track record.
He married Karon Louise Cromwell on August 3, 1962 in Hoisington, Kansas. After being married they lived in Hoisington then moved to Oklahoma for a short time before moving to Newton.
Larry had been a welder at Hesston Hay and Forage for several years. Through the years, he raced pigeons, enjoyed camping, and watching sporting events of his family members.
Survivors include his son Mark Embry and wife Gloria of Newton; daughters Tracy Yotter of Newton; Kathy Naillieux and husband Troy of Derby, Sonya Douglass and husband Craig of Newton; brothers Leon Embry and wife Judy of Wichita, Larry Landis and wife Carlene of Manheim, Penn., Layton Landis of Garden Plain, Ks.; sister Geneva Patton of Hoisington; 20 grandchildren; and 48 great grandchildren.
Larry is preceded in death by his mother and step-father Minnie and Robert Landis; wife Karon on April 12, 1998; sister Gayle Crump; and great grandchildren Lauren Paige Kemp and Brody Ray Wallace.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M., Friday (March 19, 2021) at the First Baptist Church in Newton. Interment will be in Restlawn Garden of Memories outside of Newton.
The casket will be open at the funeral home Thursday between 1:00 P.M. and 8:00 P.M., where the family will receive friends between 6:00 P.M. and 8:00 P.M.
A memorial has been established with the American Heart Association, Heart & Soul Hospice and Caring Hands Humane Society. Contributions may be sent to Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, 120 E. Broadway, Newton, Ks. 67114.
