Leo Terrones

October 21, 1929 — June 20, 2016

HILARION “LEO” TERRONES, 86, of Newton, died Monday (June 20, 2016) at the Kidron Bethel Center in North Newton, Ks.

He was born on October 21, 1929 in Newton, the son of Thomas and Clara Landin Terrones. Leo was raised and attended schools in Newton. He married Emily Juarez.

After spending 46 years with the Santa Fe Railroad, Leo retired on October 4, 1991.

He was a lifelong member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. He enjoyed working in his yard and having a green thumb. Leo could always be spotted at one of the many area Mexican dances. He also enjoyed working in the kitchen and dining room of Bethel College, as well as walking his dog “Chico”. Christmas was always an important time for Leo to spend with his family, exchanging gifts and preparing his favorite Mexican foods. He loved to travel, especially to Las Vegas.

Survivors include his sons, David Terrones of Newton, James Terrones and wife Janet of Olathe, Ks.; daughters Sophia Martinez and husband Tony, Jr. of Newton, Vera Espinoza of Hutchinson, Gloria Warner and husband Kevin of Hutchinson, and Patricia Gosselin and husband Chad of Abbeyville, Ks; sister Lorrie Lujano of Newton; 11 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild; along with many nieces and nephews.

Leo is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Foster, Alfred, Gene and Andrew Terrones; and sisters Ventura Campa, Hope Gonzalez, and Anna Terrones.

The Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be said at 7:00 P.M., Friday (June 24, 2016) with the Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday (June 25, 2016) both at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Interment will be in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Newton.

The casket will be open at the church after 3:00 P.M., on Friday.

A memorial has been established with the building fund of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, contributions may be sent to Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, 120 E. Broadway, Newton, Ks. 67114.
