LeRoy W. Seitz

July 6, 1931 — January 14, 2012

LeRoy W. Seitz, 80, of Newton, entered into God’s Glory on the evening of January 14, 2012.
He was born near Lehigh, Kansas on July 6, 1931. His parents were Fred and Martha (Ollek) Seitz. He married Jeanne Loewen on January 7, 1955. She preceded him in death in 2003.
LeRoy was employed with t he Santa Fe Railroad for more than 35 years. He enjoyed traveling and attended many American Legion functions, including every National Convention from 1979 to 2009. LeRoy loved people and looked forward to outings with his extended Legion family, many friends and family members. .
His pride and joy was his son, Brad, daughter-in-law Cindy and two greandchildren, Kyle and Katie, all of Overland Park, Kansas. He made many trips to Overland Park to attend their sporting events, recitals and many other activities.
Leroy met Pat Durnil of El Dorado at the 2005 American Legion National Convention in Hawaii. She became a loving companion and best friend until his death. Pat was accepted as one of the family and enjoyed travelling and attending all gatherings with LeRoy, both family and social.
He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church and a lifetime member of the American Legion. LeRoy was also a former commander at the Newton Post and assisted with numerous color guards.
Preceding him in death were his parents, wife and a sister Ruby Pool.
His survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Brad and Cindy; grandchildren, Kyle and Katie; 3 sisters, Frances McRae, Norma Young and Doris (Earl) Stubby.
Funeral services will be held at the Zion Lutheran Church on Wednesday, January 18, 2012 at 1:00 P.M. Interment will be in the Greenwood Cemetery, Newton, the American Legion Riders and the United States Marine Corp Honor Guard.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday, January 17, 2012 from 1:00 – 9:00 P.M. The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 8:30 P.M.
A memorial has been established with the Zion Lutheran Church or the Newton Knights Baseball team. Contributions may be sent to Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, 120 E. Broadway, Newton, Ks. 67114.
