Lidio “Lito/Frank” G. Jaso, 92, Newton, KS passed away Thursday, December 18, 2008 at Newton Medical Center, surrounded by his family.
Mr. Jaso was born on August 3, 1916 in El Paso, TX the son of Magdaleno and Maria (Garcia) Jaso. He was a member of the Our Lady of Guadalupe Church and he participated frequently in Diocesan Masses and played his guitar at the church. He was a member of the Eagles Club. He retired from the ATSF after a lifelong career. Lidio and his wife owned, Hope, owned La Tapatia Restaurant.
Frank had a long time love for music. He was a well known musician and band leader in the Newton area for many years. He was a member of the dance band orchestra called Lito Jaso and the Latineers. He organized the Mariachi Juvenil “Tol Tec”, he taught music to numerous children in the community and surrounded himself with a big circle of musician friends.
Frank enjoyed watching the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team and was the pitcher for the El Rey fast pitch team.
He married Maria Esperanza “Hope” Lujano on September 28, 1940 in Newton, KS. She preceded him in death. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers Pedro, Nick, James and Mike Jaso.
Survivors include his daughters Jennie Kelly and Cecilia L. Contreras, both of Newton, KS. 6 grandchildren, Frank Fields, Julie Janzen, Jody Sutherland, Jeannine Garnica, Melanie Smith and Eric Kelly and 17 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters, Raymunda Florez and her husband John of Newton, KS; Lucy Gomez and her husband Gregory of Overland Park, KS; Belen Estrada of Newton, KS and Katherine Ornelas and her husband Don of Newton, KS; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM Monday, December 22, 2008 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, with Father Juan Garza, Celebrant. Burial at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:00-8:00 PM Saturday with the family present from 2:00-4:00 PM at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home. A rosary will be said on Sunday at 5:30 PM at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church.
