Lois May Hamilton

Lois May Hamilton, 92, died Monday (February 28, 2022) at the Newton Presbyterian Manor.

She was born on May 1, 1929 in Winfield, Ks., the daughter of Sanford A. and Fern Reba Snyder Atkinson. Lois was raised in the Winfield area, graduating from Winfield High School and earned a B.S. in microbiology from Oklahoma State University.

She volunteered then worked for the Girl Scouts and later worked as a social worker for SRS in Winfield and Wichita. She worked for SRS until she retired in the mid 90’s.

While living in Wichita, Lois was a member of West Heights United Methodist Church. She moved to Newton in 2015 and was a member of Trinity Heights United Methodist Church. Lois enjoyed working with pottery and was an award winning wire tree artist.

Survivors include her son Richard Hamilton of Bristow, Okla.; daughters Linda White of Valley Center and Martha Gartner of Newton; six grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents; son David Hamilton; brothers Glen Atkinson and L.Neal Atkinson; and sister Irma Scholfield.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday,  March 19 at 2:00 P.M. at Trinity Heights United Methodist Church in Newton with a reception to follow. 

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Caring Hands Humane Society or the Newton Public Library Foundation.  Contributions may be sent to Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, 120 E. Broadway St, Newton, KS 67114.
