Louis F. DeMont, 64, of Newton, Ks., died Thursday (Dec. 1, 2011) at his home.
He was born on January 23, 1947 in New Orleans, La., the son of Fredrick Louis and Clarabelle Thibodeaux DeMont. He graduated from high school in Mandeville, La. After graduation, he proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Viet Nam War.
Following being discharged from the military, Louis lived in Virginia, working for the Virginia Beach Sheriff Dept. He moved to Mandeville, La., and later Metairie, La., working for the Covington, La. Sheriff Dept. After Hurricane Katrina, Louis moved to Newton, Ks.
Louis served as a volunteer at the New Orleans V.A. Hospital for many years, having received several honors for his dedication there. Louis is a member of the Hillsboro, Ks. American Legion Post #366, the Marine Corps Assoc., and the D.A.V.
Survivors include his devoted companion, Shirley Carstens of Newton; daughters Michelle Walker and her husband Todd of Suffolk, Va., Dawn Miller and her husband Rue of Virginia Beach, Va; brother Dale DeMont,Sr. and his wife Eileen of Mandeville, La.; four grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.
Louis is preceded in death by his parents and brother Fredrick Richardson.
A memorial has been established with St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital, contributions may be sent to Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, 120 E. Broadway, Newton, Ks. 67114.
Private family inurnment will be held at a later date.
